James Madison University chooses new book by Mothers Against

Sexual Abuse President, Claire R. Reeves C.C.D.C., as part of curriculum

Huntersville, NC - When Hillary Wing-Richards, Director of the Women's Resource Center and Center for Sexual Assault Prevention at James Madison University, Virginia, heard author Claire R. Reeves C.C.D.C. speak about the child sexual abuse cases documented in her new book, Childhood, It Should Not Hurt, she and her colleagues were inspired. After reading the book, they decided to make the book part of the curriculum for JMU's Fall 2004 class ‘PSYC 450/530 - Psychology of Child Abuse and Neglect'.

“Claire Reeves’ dedication to preventing incest and child abuse shines through this important book.  With Compassion and her expert knowledge, Ms Reeves guides the reader through every aspect of this despicable crime against children.  From the denial of the judicial system to prevention to validation and hope for adult survivors of child sexual abuse, CHILDHOOD: It Should Not Hurt is a valuable tool that will educate for a very long time.” - Al Jarreau - spokesman for MASA

Childhood It Should Not Hurt is a true gift for those of us marked forever by the devastating stain of childhood sexual abuse. This book focuses on a dark and ugly secret which the world still refuses to face, that is the frequency of child sexual abuse. Studies show that incest alone affects 100,000 children each year. Even though the Equal Rights Movement of the 1980's brought attention to human rights issues including child abuse, the American legal system through its Family Reunification Mandate (1985) continues to victimize our most precious and silent citizens, our children. Claire Reeves, founder of Mothers Against Sexual Abuse, has packed her well-written book with facts and case studies. It is a must read as it boldly confronts the American court's failure to protect our children from abuse. It teaches how to recognize signs and symptoms of abuse and how to find help. Thanks to Claire Reeves for helping to bring hope to survivors of sexual abuse.
